Arbutus Speech Therapy is excited to welcome Clarice MacGillivray to our team!

Clarice earned her Masters of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology in 2020 from the University of Toronto. Prior to that she studied Biology at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. She is registered and in good standing with Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC,) Speech and Hearing BC and the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of BC (CSHBC.)

Clarice has a passion for working with both pediatric and adult populations. Throughout her career, she has gained experience in many clinical settings, including public schools, community/in-home, acute care, and long term care. In these settings, she has worked with many communication challenges including: speech sound production, fluency (stuttering), understanding and expressing language, dysphagia, literacy, and motor speech.

Clarice takes an empathetic, client-centered approach to her therapy to encourage, engage, and motivate clients to reach their goals. She values this approach to her care as it allows her to form meaningful connections with clients and their families. Her genuine desire to understand the interests, challenges, and questions of her clients (and their families) allows her to create a treatment plan that is unique to each client. By going above and beyond to holistically understand her clients, she is able to present information in a clear and understandable manner that empowers her clients and their families to be engaged in their own treatment. She is known for doing all she can to make sessions fun and engaging for everyone involved!

Arbutus Speech Therapy is excited to welcome Karen Hoang to our team!

Karen received her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from University of British Columbia and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Alberta. She is a registrant in good standing with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (CSHBC).

Karen has 7 years of experience working with families as a Behaviour Interventionist prior to becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist. This makes her an asset working with autistic children as well as those requiring extra support within their sessions.

With her extensive training in play-based therapy, Karen’s sessions are fun, engaging, and focus on language development within daily family routines. 

Karen is also passionate about adult rehabilitation and has worked with adults with dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, and apraxia of speech. Karen has completed 10 hours of the Speak Out & Loud Crowd treatment protocol which is a proven speech rehabilitation program for people with Parkinson disease.

In her free time Karen enjoys cuddling with her rescue dogs, watering her many houseplants, trying new food, and doing art projects.

Arbutus Speech Therapy is excited to welcome Levy Stewart-Bernard to our team!

Originally from Victoria, Levy is excited to be back in the province after receiving his Master of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Toronto in 2021. Before that he was studying Music with a specialization in Vocal Performance from Briercrest College in Saskatchewan. 

He is a member in good standing with Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC,) Speech and Hearing BC, and  is registered with the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of BC (CSHBC.)

Levy’s experience ranges from early intervention to dysphagia management on the palliative care floor.  When working with children, Levy uses a play-based approach. Levy has worked with clients with childhood apraxia of speech and other speech sound disorders, has led a voice therapy group, and music groups for language. He tries his best to make sessions fun, engaging, and neurodiversity affirming. 

In his free time Levy enjoys singing, exploring the city, hosting dinner parties, and working out at the gym.

Arbutus Speech Therapy is excited to welcome Victoria Giaschi to our team!

Victoria earned her Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from UBC  and her Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Greek & Roman Studies from the University of Victoria. She is a registrant in good standing with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (CSHPBC), and is certified in Speech-Language Pathology by Speech Audiology Canada (SAC) with a Declared Special Interest in Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC).

Victoria has been practicing since 2017 and has worked in a wide variety of clinical settings, including: acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and community/in-home. Victoria most recently worked at Communication Assistance for Youth and Adults (CAYA), where she acquired advanced knowledge in the area of Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) and alternative access methods.

Victoria specializes in AAC, adult speech/language intervention, and dysphagia (swallowing) management. She has a passion for working with adults with acquired neurogenic and neurodegenerative  conditions, such as Aphasia, Parkinson’s Disease (PD), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Primary Progressive Aphasia, and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Victoria’s practice focuses on improving functional communication and achieving personally-relevant goals to help her clients participate in the events and activities that they love. 

Victoria was born and raised in Vancouver. When she is not in-session you can find her at a coffee shop or performing on-stage in local musical theatre productions. Victoria also works as a party princess event entertainer on the weekends. She is passionate about supporting local businesses, and loves fashion and good food.

Arbutus Speech Therapy is excited to welcome Sue Wilson to our team!

Sue received her Master of Science degree in Speech Sciences from UBC in 1995. Since then, she has worked in both public health and private practice with children from birth to 16, as well as with adults.

In the last two years, she has transformed her practice to a complete online service. She is a certified member of Speech-Language and Audiology of Canada and is a registered member of the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professional of BC. She is also active on the Registry of Autism Service Providers.

She has extensive experience with early intervention, and to that end has taken advanced training in Hanen – It Takes Two to Talk, PROMPT Therapy (Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets), SCERTS A Comprehensive Educational Approach for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Introduction to ESDM Early Start Denver Model behavioral therapy. Her approach is centered on encouraging and coaching parents of children with communication challenges with specific techniques and strategies so they can support their child’s language development in fun, playful ways within their daily routines at home.

Sue also has a special interest in coaching individuals who wish to develop their corporate communication abilities through attention to accent modification, and interpersonal skills as they apply in professional settings. She has taken advanced training at the Institute of Language and Phonology and is certified in PESL Pronouncing English as a Second Language. She enjoys helping people improve in areas such as presentation skills, leadership communication, and written communications.

In her free time Sue enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, gardening, fitness training, painting and reading.
